  • L.A. tops Houston in extra time to advance to MLS Cup Final

Carson, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Galaxy earned a 2-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo in Major League Soccer's Western Conference Final at The Home Depot Center on Friday night.

The game, which had two separate 15-20 minute stoppages because of power outages on each side of the half, went to extra time after the two clubs battled to a scoreless draw through 90 minutes of regulation.

The Galaxy finally got on the board in the 103 minute when Gregg Berhalter pounced on a David Beckham free kick in the Houston penalty area after it deflected off defender Ricardo Clark.

The Galaxy took the suspense out of the rest of the extra time when Landon Donovan scored a penalty kick goal six minutes later.

Alan Gordan drew the chance when he was taken down in the area by Clark. Donovan slotted the chance home for his third goal of the postseason to close out the scoring.

The Galaxy will play the winner of the Real Salt Lake vs. Chicago Eastern Final on Saturday in the MLS Championship next Sunday.
