Dixon sets IndyCar record with Mid-Ohio victory
Lexington, OH (Sports Network) - Scott Dixon blazed the field to win Sunday's Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and surpass Sam Hornish Jr. for most career victories in the IndyCar Series with 20.
Dixon, the defending series champion, passed Justin Wilson for the lead on lap 36 when Wilson got caught up in lap traffic with Milka Duno. Dixon benefited from a quick late-race pit stop and then cruised to a 27-second margin of victory. It was his fourth win of the season.
Ryan Briscoe, the pole sitter, held off Dario Franchitti in the closing laps to finish second. Franchitti came in third, followed by Ryan Hunter-Reay and Hideki Mutoh.
Wilson ran out of fuel as he came onto pit road for his final stop. His car stalled while exiting his pit. Wilson's mishap led to a 12th-place finish.
Dixon reclaimed the lead in the championship standings with a three-point advantage over Briscoe.
