  • The German car maker also will end its shareholding with McLaren.

    Mercedes' parent company, Daimler AG, along with Aabar Investments PJSC, will take over 75.1 percent of Brawn GP, which captured the constructors' title and drivers' championship with Jenson Button in the team's maiden F1 season. The remaining 24.9 percent will remain with current stakeholders Ross Brawn and Nick Fry. Brawn will remain as team principal.

  • In a press release, Toyota said it remained dedicated to competing at the top of motor sports, but because of the abrupt economic changes that started last year it was withdrawing from the circuit.

    Toyota leaves F1 having compiled 13 podium and 87 point finishes over eight seasons since 2002. The company said it intended to find a solution for parties who would be affected by the decision.

  • Barrichello won two grand prix this year in Brawn GP's sensational maiden F1 season.

    The Brazilian finished 18 points behind world champion and teammate Jenson Button. Brawn also clinched the 2009 constructors' title.

  • Vettel took command after Lewis Hamilton, the pole sitter, retired early due to brake failure. The 22-year-old German claimed his fourth victory of the season. The Abu Dhabi GP marked the first F1 twilight event.

    "It's a perfect day to finish the season on a high," said Vettel, who joined Michael Schumacher as the only German drivers to score four or more F1 wins in a year.

  • Hamilton, the 2008 world champion, lapped the 3.451-mile circuit in one minute, 40.948 seconds for his fourth pole in the last seven grand prix. The McLaren driver also recorded his 17th career Formula One pole.

    "The car has been probably the best it's been all year," Hamilton said. "It seems to feel quite comfortable on this circuit. What they have done here is incredible. I think it's just a real pleasure to drive here." Hamilton wound up 0.667 seconds quicker than Vettel, who will start on the outside pole.

  • The 2009 Formula One calendar concludes this weekend with the first running of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

    While the Abu Dhabi GP should be entertaining, the F1 driver championship and constructors' title have already been wrapped up. Jenson Button won his first world championship with a fifth-place finish two weeks ago in the Brazilian Grand Prix. Brawn GP also clinched the constructors' title in Brazil.

    Button started in 14th but made several key overtaking moves throughout the 71-lap race. Rubens Barrichello, the pole sitter, fell back in the field after his first pit stop. Barrichello then suffered a punctured tire late in the event, which led to an eighth-place finish for the Brazilian.

  • Barrichello, who trails championship leader Button by 14 points heading into the penultimate race of the season, topped Mark Webber from Red Bull in the closing seconds of the marathon qualifying session at Interlagos which lasted more than two and a half hours. The 37-year-old Barrichello lapped the 2.677- mile circuit in one minute, 19.576 seconds for his first Formula One pole since the 2004 Brazilian GP.

    "I love these conditions, and I'm really happy for those fans who stayed behind to see all this," said Barrichello, who delighted his home crowd after claiming his first pole in 88 grand prix.

  • With two races remaining in the Formula One season, Sebastian Vettel from Red Bull is confident he can beat Brawn GP teammates Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello for this year's world championship.

    Vettel won the Japanese Grand Prix in dominating fashion earlier this month. The German moved to within 16 points of Button, who finished eighth. Vettel is optimistic his momentum will continue this weekend in Brazil and later this month in Abu Dhabi.

  • Glock, 27, was initially diagnosed with only a minor cut to his leg following his accident at Suzuka, but Toyota said on Sunday that subsequent medical checks in Germany have revealed a cracked vertebra. Doctors have therefore ruled Glock out from participating in Brazil.

    Toyota will replace Glock with reserve driver Kamui Kobayashi in the penultimate race of the 2009 Formula One season.

  • Vettel simply was in a class of his own in Japan, leading all 53 laps for his third win of the season. The Red Bull driver gained nine points on current title leader Button with two races remaining in the season -- Brazil and Abu Dhabi.

    "It can still be done," Vettel said. "It is looking much better now. It would be nice to have a couple more races left, but two races to go...We are here to fight, and the best thing we can do is win like we did." Despite a meager eighth-place finish, Button left Japan with a 14-point advantage over Brawn GP teammate Barrichello and a 16-point cushion on Vettel. Barrichello trimmed one point off of Button's lead after finishing one spot ahead of him.

  • Vettel started on the pole and led all 53 laps to capture his third victory of the season and the fourth in his F1 career. The 22-year-old German moved to within 16 points of current leader Jenson Button heading into the penultimate race of the season on October 18 in Brazil.

    "Woo-hoo, It's our race, our race," Vettel screamed over his radio after crossing the finish line first.

  • Vettel was fastest in all three qualifying sessions. The Red Bull Racing driver topped Toyota's Jarno Trulli in the final segment with a time of one minute, 32.160 seconds for his fourth pole of the season and the fifth of his Formula One career.

    "There's three races to go, and it's quite a big gap," Vettel said. "Every race has to be a chance if you still want to keep our chances alive." Vettel trails leader Jenson Button by 25 points. Button, who qualified seventh, can clinch the F1 title in Japan if he gains five points or more on Brawn GP teammate and closest competitor Rubens Barrichello, who qualified ahead of him in fifth.

  • Alonso replaces Kimi Raikkonen, who is leaving at the end of this season, at which time it's expected he will return to McLaren, where he raced from 2002-2006.

    Raikkonen had been under contract with Scuderia through 2010, but the two sides agreed to terminate the final year with the addition of Alonso.

  • The Japanese Grand Prix returns to Suzuka Circuit this year after Fuji Speedway hosted the Formula One event in 2007 and '08.

    With three races remaining this season, Jenson Button holds a 15-point lead over his Brawn GP teammate Rubens Barrichello. Button finished fifth, while Barrichello came in sixth in last Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix.

    "The car over the weekend has just got better and better as the evolution of the track has got more grip," Hamilton said. "We'll see what happens with the strategies, but obviously I'm in the position starting from the front." Sebastian Vettel will join Hamilton on the front starting row after the Red Bull Racing driver posted a lap at 1:48.204.

  • This weekend in Singapore, Renault returns to the scene that nearly cost the French team permanent expulsion from Formula One competition.

    The International Automobile Federation (FIA) handed Renault a two-year suspended ban on Monday after the team admitted to intentionally causing a crash in last year's inaugural Singapore Grand Prix.

  • The International Automobile Federation (FIA) handed Renault a two-year suspended ban during a special one-and-a-half hour hearing of the FIA's World Motor Sports Council in Paris.

    Renault avoided permanent expulsion from F1, but the French team would be disqualified if found guilty of similar charges within the next two years.

  • Barrichello, the oldest active driver in Formula One at age 37, finished 2.866 seconds ahead of Button and gained ground in the world championship standings with four races remaining in the season.

    "Luckily, I had a good start and I could run my pace," Barrichello said. "The pace was good enough to be in front of them by the first pit stop." Barrichello trimmed Button's lead in the world championship from 16 to 14 points.

  • Hamilton, the defending Formula One world champion, turned a lap around the 3.6-mile, 10-turn Monza course in one minute, 24.066 seconds for his second pole of the season and the 15th of his F1 career.

    "I don't think we anticipated being as quick as we are this weekend," Hamilton said. "It's a bonus for everyone on the team." Sutil finished 0.2 seconds behind Hamilton for a career-best second starting position.

    The FIA said "[Renault] conspired with driver Nelson Piquet to cause a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, with the aim of causing the deployment of the safety car to the advantage of their other driver, Fernando Alonso." Piquet retired from F1's inaugural night race after hitting the wall on lap 14 of the 61-lap grand prix. Alonso, who started on a light fuel load, made his first pit stop prior to Piquet's accident.   • Fisichella not only gave Force India its first-ever Formula One points, but also notched the team's maiden pole in the sport at Spa-Francorchamps. However, Fisichella is making more news off the track this week, as he is widely rumored to move over to Ferrari and replace Luca Badoer, who has substituted for the injured Felipe Massa in the past two grand prix.

    Massa continues to recover from multiple head injuries he sustained during a high-speed qualifying crash last month in Hungary. He is currently in Miami undergoing additional medical tests.

  • Raikkonen charged from sixth to second heading into the first corner of the opening lap, and then survived the melee in the fifth turn where Brawn GP's Button was tagged by Renault rookie Romain Grosjean.

    Button spun into the barrier, knocking him out of contention. Hamilton also slammed into the barrier when he was hit from behind by Toro Rosso newcomer Jaime Alguersuari.
