  • Flyers shoot for fourth straight win in clash with Blues

(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers will try to win a season-high fourth straight game tonight, when they host the St. Louis Blues at the Wachovia Center.

The Flyers have outscored their opponents 17-5 over their current win streak, the club's first three-gamer since opening the season 3-0-0.

Following two straight six-goal outbursts, Philadelphia got a pair of goals out of winger Daniel Carcillo in last night's 5-2 triumph in Buffalo. The goals were the first by Carcillo in a Flyers uniform in the regular season since being acquired from Phoenix last season.

Chris Pronger added a goal and an assist, James van Riemsdyk and Darroll Powe both scored and Ray Emery made 28 saves.

"Our lines have been playing real good," said Carcillo. "I wanted to help in the points production and the goal scoring. It feels really good to get that monkey off my back and get a couple of goals." Philadelphia begins a four-game homestand tonight, and will likely do so without forward Danny Briere. Briere has missed the last three games with a strained right groin.

The Flyers are 5-2-1 as the host this year.

The Blues enter this contest having lost three straight, but at least they were able to score in their last game. Coming off back-to-back losses to Phoenix and Florida in which it was shut out, St. Louis was handed a 2-1 setback by Calgary on Thursday.

Making his NHL debut, Lars Eller scored in the third period to snap a 171 minute, five second scoreless drought for the Blues. The 13th overall pick of the 2007 draft became the 12th player in Blues history to score in his debut.

Chris Mason stopped 29-of-31 shots faced in the loss, St. Louis' fourth in five games.

"I thought we played [the Flames] really strong," said Mason. "I think the biggest thing is that we played well and stuck with the system." The Blues, who are 3-1-1 on the road this year, were without Andy McDonald due to a head/neck injury sustained when he crashed into the boards on Saturday versus Florida. Carlo Colaiacovo, meanwhile, has missed four straight because of illness.

The Flyers had won four straight over the Blues before St. Louis notched a 4-0 home win last season. The Blues have lost five of their last six at Philadelphia.
