Allenby, Kaymer lead suspended Castello Masters
Castellon, Spain (Sports Network) - Australia's Robert Allenby shot a five- under 66 in the second round and Germany's Martin Kaymer had a four-under 67 to share the lead Friday at the suspended Castello Masters.
For the second day in a row, play was suspended due to darkness.
The tournament is playing catch up following a three-hour wind delay to the first round on Thursday.
Allenby and Kaymer completed 36 holes at 12-under 130 to share the clubhouse lead, but almost half of the field still needs to finish the second round.
Those players will return to the Club de Campo course on Saturday morning.
Defending champion Sergio Garcia -- in the midst of another fine round when play was suspended -- was only a shot off the lead at 11-under par.
Garcia, who opened with a 63 and shared the first-round lead with Kaymer, was on the 16th hole when the round was stopped.
Shiv Kapur fired a six-under 65 and stood at 10-under 132, while Jose Maria Olazabal was also 10-under through 14 holes.
Sam Hutsby (68) reached the clubhouse with a nine-under 133.
Kaymer completed 24 holes on Friday after his first round was interrupted the day before. He is playing for the first time since suffering broken toes in a go-kart crash in August.
"Maybe he's the bionic man," Allenby said -- but his co-leader admitted the injury is not affecting his swing.
Kaymer, who posted five birdies and a bogey for his second-round 67, did say he was in a lot of pain on the last few holes.
"But my expectations were not high, so it worked out pretty well," said Kaymer, who wrapped up his first-round 63 with four birdies in the morning. "I'll put some ice on it now and take it easy. The doctor told me to avoid long walks and that I won't be 100 percent for a year." Kaymer, the world No. 12, is seeking his third victory of the season, while Allenby, a four-time European Tour winner, is chasing his first title on the circuit since 1996.
Allenby played 25 holes on Friday -- one more than Kaymer -- and birdied the last two holes of the second round to join the German in the lead. In the morning, he played the final seven holes of his first round at even-par to shoot a 64.
