FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SUBDIVISION

  • National player of the week honors go to Curley, Norman and Holt

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Quarterback Rob Curley of Lafayette, cornerback Josh Norman of Coastal Carolina and kick returner Terrence Holt of Austin Peay have been named The Sports Network's FCS national players of the week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Rob Curley, Lafayette, Senior, 6-1, 200, Quarterback, Cinnaminson, NJ.

Curley set a Lafayette record and tied a pair of Patriot League marks with seven touchdown passes to lead the Leopards to a crucial 56-49 PL victory over Colgate Saturday at home. Curley completed 18-of-31 passes for a career-high 373 yards as he accounted for seven of Lafayette's eight TDs. He tied the PL record of seven TD passes that was set by Jeff Wiley of Holy Cross in a 1987 game against Lehigh and matched a mark for touchdowns responsible for that was held by Wiley and Fordham's Kevin Eachin (2003 vs Rhode Island). Curley's new Lafayette TD passes mark broke the record of five held by Tom Kirkhhoff (1991 vs Buffalo), Frank Bauer (1987 vs Army) and Paul Stuncius (1986 vs Army). It was the third consecutive week that Curley had broken his personal, single- game passing mark. The performance also moved Curley to second nationally in passing efficiency, behind only Ryan Perrilloux of Jacksonville State.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Josh Norman, Coastal Carolina, Sophomore, 6-2, 190, Cornerback, Greenwood, SC.

Norman tied a Big South single-game record with three interceptions all in the second half as Coastal Carolina held off Gardner-Webb for a 26-21 victory Saturday at home. Trailing 14-10, Norman ended a Bulldog scoring threat and set up CCU's first touchdown drive in the second half with a third-quarter interception. He ended another GWU scoring threat with his second interception in the fourth period and his third interception sealed the win in the end zone with less than 30 seconds to play. Norman's performance also helped him establish a Big South record with seven interceptions this season.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK Terrence Holt, Austin Peay, Junior, 5-7, 180, Kick Returner, Nashville, TN.

Holt recorded a school-record 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in Austin Peay's 27-17 loss at Murray State. Holt, the nation's leader in all-purpose yardage with 204 yards per game, finished with 241 yards in this game, rushing 13 times for 77 yards, including a 30-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and catching two passes for 26 yards. He had two punt returns for 18 yards and three kick returns total for 120 yards. With two more touchdowns, Holt also ranks 23rd nationally in scoring, averaging eight points per game.
