White Sox buy out Dye
Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago White Sox have bought out the 2010 mutual option on outfielder Jermaine Dye, making him eligible to file for free agency.
Dye will receive a buyout payment of $950,000 instead of the $12 million in salary he would have received for the 2010 season.
Dye, 35, has spent the last five seasons with the White Sox and in 2009 batted .250 with 27 home runs in 81 runs batted in.
He also posted a .340 on-base percentage in 141 games.
Over 14 major league seasons with Atlanta, Kansas City, Oakland and the White Sox, Dye owns a .274 career average with 325 homers and 1,072 RBI. He was named the MVP of the 2005 World Series, which Chicago won over Houston.
