  • Knutson out as Washington's head coach


    Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Ken Knutson is out as the head baseball coach at Washington, ending a 17-year tenure at the helm of the program.

    Knutson, the all-time leader in wins at the school with a 584-399-2 overall record, will leave his position effective June 30. He spent almost all of the last 27 years as a player, assistant coach and head coach at Washington.

    "I have spent nearly my entire professional life at the UW," said Knutson. "I am looking forward to spending more time with my family and having the opportunity to place my professional focus on growing my private business.

    "I'm proud of everything the UW baseball program has accomplished during my years here. I have met some really awesome people and coached so many great players over the years. That's what I'll miss the most, for sure." A 1981 graduate of Washington, Knutson was named Pac-10 North Division Coach of the Year three times during his tenure. He led Washington to two Pac-10 titles,four divisionchampionships and six appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
