  • Top-seeded Texas earns final College World Series berth

Austin, TX (Sports Network) - Taylor Jungmann pitched six scoreless innings to help the top-seeded Texas Longhorns earn a 5-2 victory over TCU to earn the final berth in the College World Series.

Jungmann allowed only two hits and a walk with five strikeouts for the Longhorns, who are chasing their first national title since 2005. Texas is making a record 34th appearance in the tournament and has won six titles, second only to Southern California (12).

TCU gave Texas a run for its money, forcing a deciding third game in the Super Regional after winning Game 2 by a 3-2 margin. But the Longhorns were the victors in Monday's game, allowing them to join the other seven teams that had already advanced to the final stage, to be played from June 13-23/24.

Each of the top five nationally ranked teams made it to the final eight, as Cal State Fullerton, LSU, UNC and Arizona State all joined the Longhorns in the College World Series.

Southern Mississippi, Arkansas and Virginia also advanced by winning its Super Regional tournaments. Southern Mississippi is the lowest ranked team remaining, as it was a third-seed in its regional tournament before overcoming Georgia Tech and Florida to reach the CWS.

The final brackets will be set up in a double-elimination format, with the final two teams playing a best-of-three series starting on June 22. In Bracket One, Cal State Fullerton will take on Arkansas while LSU will battle Virginia, both on Saturday. Bracket Two will feature UNC against Arizona State and Texas against Southern Mississippi, both on Sunday.
