  • UNC baseball coach Fox agrees to six-year deal

Chapel Hill, NC (Sports Network) - University of North Carolina baseball coach Mike Fox has agreed to a six-year contract that runs through 2014, the school announced Monday.

Fox, the 2008 National Coach of the Year, is in his 11th year with UNC and has led the Tar Heels to three consecutive College World Series berths. North Carolina has won an NCAA-best 165 games from 2006-08.

Fox's Tar Heels teams have gone 483-200-1 overall. He also coached North Carolina Wesleyan for 15 seasons, and in his 26 seasons as a collegiate coach, Fox's teams have gone 1,023-341-5.

"Mike has proven to be one of the elite coaches in the country and has built the Tar Heel baseball program into a consistent national contender," said UNC athletics director Dick Baddour. "Baseball coaches across the country are signing contracts more often than in past years, and we felt it was important to make this commitment to each other." Fox's contract calls for a base salary of $160,000 and $10,000 expense account for the current season. In 2009-10, those figures increase to $164,800 and $20,000, and in the following season they escalate to $169,744 and $25,000.

Fox's salary will be reviewed annually after the contract's third year. He will also receive an additional month of salary for each trip to the NCAA Tournament, NCAA Super Regional and College World Series, and for the team reaching at least 960 in the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate.
