  • Hanley Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run for the Marlins, who have won four of their last five games. Andrew Miller (3-4) got the win as he gave up three runs on seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings of work.

    Garrett Jones and Andy LaRoche each hit a solo home run for the Pirates, who have dropped three of four. Zach Duke (8-7) was tagged with the loss as he gave up four runs -- three earned -- on seven hits with three walks and five strikeouts over six innings of work.

  • Cabrera, David Eckstein and Adrian Gonzalez -- the Padres' top three hitters -- combined to go 6-for-14 with six runs batted in, helping San Diego snap a three-game losing streak.

    Padres starter Josh Geer allowed two runs over 6 1/3 innings, while Greg Burke (1-0) took the win after getting the final two outs of the seventh. San Diego scored three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to take the victory.

  • Lincecum (9-2), fresh off being named the NL's Pitcher of the Month for June, won for the fifth time in his last six starts and for the ninth time in his last 10 decisions.

    The reigning Cy Young Award winner for the Senior Circuit struck out nine, walked two and walked twice himself, scoring both times. He has now allowed two runs or less in eight of his last nine outings and has fanned at least eight batters in each of his last five starts.

  • Justin Morneau went 4-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI, and Michael Cuddyer added a solo shot for the Twins, who have won three of their last four.

    Francisco Liriano had a solid start as he gave up three runs and five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts over seven innings of work. Matt Guerrier (4-0) got the win for throwing a perfect eighth inning.

  • Posada also hit a homer and finished with two RBI, Johnny Damon hit a two-run homer, Hideki Matsui added a solo blast and Alex Rodriguez also drove in a run for the Yankees, who have taken the first two games of the series and have won nine of their last 10 contests.

    Brett Tomko (1-2) pitched a scoreless inning for the win. Starter Chien-Ming Wang was charged with six hits and four runs over 5 1/3 innings before leaving due to injury.

  • Bergmann was a member of Washington's opening day roster and will log his third stint with the parent club this season. The 27-year-old is 0-1 with a 6.91 earned run average in 14 appearances this season.

    In 19 relief appearances with Syracuse, Bergmann went 1-1 with two saves and a 1.16 ERA.

  • Wang departed in the sixth inning with a right shoulder strain, and is scheduled to undergo an MRI later Saturday.

  • Callaspo tripled, walked and finished with three total runs batted in for Kansas City, which had dropped the first two contests of this four-game set, in addition to its last four games overall. Brayan Pena hit a solo homer for the Royals.

    Kansas City starter Luke Hochevar (4-3) took the win, though he gave up four runs on nine hits and two walks in six innings.

  • Russell Branyan added a pair of RBI for the Mariners, who have won three consecutive games.

    Roy Corcoran (2-0) hurled 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the win. David Aardsma turned in a perfect final frame to notch his 17th save.

  • Joey Votto also homered and tripled, knocking in two, while Willy Taveras collected three hits and scored a run for the Reds, who had won four of five before dropping the opener to this set.

    Owings (6-8) won for the third time in four starts, allowing six hits and two runs with two walks and six strikeouts. Francisco Cordero picked up his 20th save of the season by hurling a perfect ninth.

  • John Lannan (6-5) was sharp in posting his fourth straight victory. The lefty tossed eight innings and yielded three runs on nine hits and a walk. Mike MacDougal earned his fourth save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

    Ryan Zimmerman had a two-run single and Josh Willingham added an RBI single in the pivotal eighth frame. The Nationals snapped a four-game slide and won for just the second time in eight games.

  • Petit has been shelved since May 9 with a right shoulder strain. He just completed a five-game rehab stint with Triple-A Reno and was 0-1 with a 6.89 earned run average over 15 2/3 innings.

    The 24-year-old righty has struggled so far in 2009, posting an 0-3 record to go with an 8.03 ERA in six games, five of those starts.

  • Floyd has won his last two starts for the White Sox, and is coming off an outstanding performance against Cleveland. In the 6-3 victory over the Tribe, Floyd tossed 7 2/3 scoreless innings, scattering five hits, while also striking out five batters Despite the recent run however, the right-hander has been inconsistent on the mound this year, posting a 6-5 ledger with a 4.12 earned run average.

    Earlier this season Floyd was rocked by the Royals, surrendering six runs on six hits in five innings. In seven career appearances against KC, Floyd has struggled, posting a 1-4 mark with a terrible 4.35 earned run average.

  • The Rockies won the opener, 5-0, on Friday with a combined four-hit shutout from starter Jorge De La Rosa and relievers Joel Peralta and Huston Street.

    Colorado enters the game third in the West, trailing first-place Los Angeles by 8 1/2 games, but entering just a game back of NL wild card-leading San Francisco.

  • Hanson, who'll turn 23 later this month, was called to the majors earlier this season upon the release of veteran southpaw Tom Glavine.

    He was touched for six hits and six runs against Milwaukee in his no-decision debut on June 7, but has been stellar since while allowing just two runs in 23 innings.

  • Thompson, who entered 2009 with just 24 starts in 153 big-league appearances, began this season with nine straight outings out of the bullpen before getting a start against the Reds on June 2.

    He went five innings in the Cardinals' 5-2 win, getting a no-decision after giving up five hits and two runs in five innings.

  • Ramirez returned from a 50-game suspension on Friday and played only 5 1/2 innings, going 0-for-3 with a walk, two groundouts and a pop out, but the rest of his Dodger teammates picked up the slack and used a five-run first inning to defeat the Padres, 6-3.

    The 12-time All- Star, who was greeted with a a mixture of jeers and applause in his first at-bat, was suspended on May 7 after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

  • Boston's starter this afternoon will be Brad Penny, who has one win in his last six starts. The last time the big right-hander took the hill he only allowed two runs in six innings against Atlanta, but due to a lack of run support, the Oklahoma native took the loss against the Braves.

    At home Penny owns a 4.66 earned run average, but in those seven starts, he has compiled a 4-1 ledger.

  • Edwin Jackson will toe the rubber for the Tigers today, as the right-hander hopes for a little run support. Despite not allowing more than four runs in any of his last four starts, Jackson is winless in those outings.

    The last time Jackson was on the mound, he tossed seven strong innings, allowing just three runs on five hits, while also striking out five batters. However, despite the strong performance he did not factor in the 4-3 victory over Houston.

  • The Cubs moved back over .500 and closed to within 2 1/2 games of first place in the NL Central on Friday when Jake Fox drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Ryan Theriot in the bottom of the 10th inning, lifting Chicago to a 2-1 win.

    Theriot finished 2-for-5, while Mike Fontenot and Koyie Hill each had two hits apiece for the Cubs, who are in the midst of their longest home winning streak since taking 14 straight in the Windy City from May 18-June 22, 2008.

  • Duke has been one of the best left-handers in the league this season, but has lost two of his last three starts. Duke absorbed the loss on Monday against the Chicago Cubs, despite a decent effort, as he allowed three runs and seven hits in seven innings to drop him to 8-6 on the season to go along with a 3.13 earned run average.

    Pittsburgh, which has scored one run or less a major league-high 20 times, has managed just five total runs in Duke's six losses.

  • Lopez (1-0), who had not started a game in the majors since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2007, baffled the Mets lineup over 6 1/3 innings in a 7-2 win on Friday.

    The right-hander held New York to two runs on six hits and a walk, as Philadelphia moved a game in front of the Florida Marlins for sole possession of first place in the NL East.

  • The strong right-hander suffered his second loss of the season in his last start, allowing two runs in six innings against Tampa Bay. However, despite the setback, Halladay has been one of the top pitchers in all of baseball and is currently 10-2 on the season with an outstanding 2.56 ERA.

    The Yankees are very familiar with Toronto's ace, however, the team has not enjoyed much success against him, as Halladay has posted a 16-5 ledger with a 2.79 earned run average in 33 appearances against the Bronx Bombers.
