  • COLLEGE BASKETBALL BETTING - Weekend Rundown

Posted on Fri, 05 Feb 2010 00:00:00 GMT by North Shore Sports, INC

The Super Bowl might be on Sunday, but college hoops is really starting to heat up down the stretch. Bookmaker Sportsbook takes a look at the five showdowns of the CBB betting weekend that you must check out over the course of the weekend...

Villanova Wildcats vs. Georgetown Hoyas, Saturday 12:00 ET: Two of the top teams in the top conference in the country square off at the Verizon Center on Saturday afternoon when the Wildcats duke it out with the Hoyas. Georgetown fell victim to the old sandwich game trick midweek, as they lost to South Florida at home in a shocking upset after beating Duke last weekend. Villanova continued to roll on Tuesday night, knocking off Seton Hall 81-71 at home. HC Jay Wright's club is now a perfect 9-0 SU in conference and is a nearly equally impressive 7-2 ATS in those games.

Temple Owls vs. Richmond Spiders, Saturday 2:00 ET: The Atlantic 10 gets in on the action on Saturday afternoon as well with one of the best matchups of the day. The Owls and Spiders both appear to be on their way to the NCAA Tournament, but both are looking for ways to boost their resumes. Temple moved to a very impressive 7-1 SU in A-10 play with a 76-60 win over Duquesne on Wednesday night. However, the Owls' lone conference loss came on the road (@ Charlotte), so the Spiders, who are 6-2 in conference, should be up for the challenge. Richmond took out St. Joe's 68-48 for its third straight cover on Wednesday.

BYU Cougars vs. UNLV Runnin' Rebels, Saturday 4:00 ET: Mid-major schools continue the theme of the weekend's top basketball betting showdowns when the Cougs and Rebs face off at the Thomas & Mack Center in Sin City. BYU is a solid 3-1 SU and ATS in MWC play on the road this year, but their most recent triumph was a 76-56 'W' in Provo on Tuesday. UNLV's position vastly improved for the NCAA Tournament this week with a 78-50 blowout win at Wyoming, but taking this one at home against Brigham Young would go a long way in nailing down its ticket to the dance.

San Diego State Aztecs vs. New Mexico Lobos, Saturday 6:00 ET: BYU and UNLV aren't the only two teams in the Mountain West making plenty of noise. The Aztecs probably need to go on a nice run in the weeks to come to be in at-large consideration for the NCAA Tournament, but blowout wins against Air Force and Colorado State over the last week will certainly help their cause. New Mexico is most certainly in the field, but it will be hoping to win the MWC regular season title first and foremost. It has covered four straight games overall and three straight at The Pit. UNLV is the only team to have won in New Mexico since UTEP bounced the Lobos there in January 2009.

South Florida Bulls vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Sunday 12:00 ET: Who would've thought a few weeks ago that this would be a battle between two bubble teams in the Big East? South Florida has suddenly propelled itself into the picture once again by rolling off its fourth straight SU victory and its sixth straight cover in conference with a 72-64 win at Georgetown on Wednesday night. Notre Dame has to be considered on red alert for its NCAA Tournament lives, and a slip up in this would probably prove to be fatal.
