  • Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Ohio State Buckeyes 3:30 ET

Posted on Wed, 11 Nov 2009 00:00:00 GMT by North Shore Sports, INC

Bookmaker Sportsbook customers will have another chance to sink their teeth into a fantastic Big Ten betting clash when the Iowa Hawkeyes (9-1, 6-3 ATS) and the Ohio State Buckeyes (8-2, 8-2 ATS) get in on in Columbus from the Horseshoe. The winner of this game will be just one win away from a Rose Bowl date with the winner of the Pac-10. The loser will likely be heading to either the Capital One Bowl or the Outback Bowl on New Year's Day.

Bookmaker Sportsbook oddsmakers have lined the Buckeyes as 16.5-point favorites to take control of the Big Ten title race; the over/under has been posted at 36.

The clock struck midnight on Saturday afternoon in Iowa City when the Hawkeyes were dropped from the ranks of the unbeatens by Northwestern 17-10. Truth be told, even had Iowa survived, it would've been difficult to keep the perfect season alive after QB Ricky Stanzi suffered an injury in the second quarter. Stanzi won't be available this week and may not be able to get back on the field this season. The Iowa offense didn't score a point with backup QB James Vandenberg calling the shots. He went just 9/27 for 82 yards with an interception in the first meaningful action of his freshman season. That's bad news for a team that is already going to be without its top rusher, Adam Robinson.

The Buckeyes put themselves back in the Rose Bowl chase last week with a resounding 24-7 victory in Happy Valley against the Nittany Lions. The proof is in the pudding. Ohio State's defense has been absolutely dominant since losing to Purdue, allowing a total of 14 points in those three games. That unit ranks sixth in the country in total defense (254.1 yards per game) and third in points allowed (11.2 per game). Those numbers really could improve against a banged up Iowa offense.

The question is whether OSU's 'O' will be able to answer the bell and put enough points on the board to put the Hawkeyes away. Last week, QB Terrelle Pryor looked pretty good even though his numbers weren't fantastic. He went 8/17 for 125 yards with two scores and added 50 rushing yards and a TD on the ground. Very quietly, Ohio State has scored at least 30 points in seven of its ten games this year, which is why it has covered eight of its L/9 against the closing pointspread.

All of the college football betting trends in this game point towards a Buckeyes blowout. Ohio State has won nine of the ten meetings between these two teams dating back to 1995 and is 8-2 ATS in that stretch as well. Iowa has conceded at least 31 points in three straight clashes with the Bucks, and hasn't won a game in the Horseshoe since 1991 when it won an ugly 16-9 decision. Ohio State is 17-3 SU in its L/20 Big Ten betting battles, while going 8-1 ATS its L/9 conference tilts.
