  • Game 6: Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Yankees 7:55 ET

Posted on Wed, 04 Nov 2009 00:00:00 GMT by North Shore Sports, INC

On Monday night, the Philadelphia Phillies (102-74, +$975) picked up a huge 8-6 home victory to keep their season alive for at least one more game. Now, they've got to hit the road once again to Yankee Stadium, where they must find a way to pick up two MLB betting wins against the New York Yankees (113-63, +$1,602) to successfully defend their World Series title.

The win didn't come easily, though. The champs held an 8-2 lead heading into the final two innings of play of Game 5 before manager Charlie Manuel elected to let his starting pitcher, LHP Cliff Lee try to throw another frame. Lee conceded three runs without recording an out in that inning, and the Philadelphia bullpen allowed another run in the ninth before RHP Ryan Madson found a way to shut the door for his first save of this series.

The oddsmakers have lined the defending champs at -205 to close out this series and clinch the title tonight. The over/under has been set at 9 over -115. Bookmaker Sportsbook will have all of the World Series betting action on this game until the first pitch is thrown just before 8:00 ET. The game can be seen nationally on Fox.

The game for the Phillies will be reliant on the right arm of RHP Pedro Martinez. The right-hander allowed three runs in six innings worth of work in Game 2 of this series. His offense, as has been the case for the majority of this series, was unreliable that night. He was a tough-luck loser in the 3-1 decision. Martinez has struggled against the Yankees in the postseason, going 0-3 with a 5.67 ERA in six career appearances. Expect to hear plenty of "Who's Your Daddy!" chants from the bleachers seats for the second time in this World Series.

Save for 2B Chase Utley, none of the Phillies are figuring out how to get on base against New York's pitchers. Utley has blasted five homers and driven in eight runs, but the rest of the team has only accounted for 16 runs driven in through five games. That won't cut it for a team that averaged over five runs a ball game in the regular season.

Who better to try to close out the World Series for the Bronx Bombers than LHP Andy Pettitte? Pettitte already owns the record for the most career wins in the postseason, and he can add to that by winning the clinching game of New York's 27th championship in franchise history this evening. It's been another fantastic postseason for the 36-year old southpaw, as he is 3-0 with a 3.24 ERA in four starts for the Yanks. He was knocked around a little bit by the defending champs in Game 3 of this series, as he allowed four runs in six frames, but he ultimately picked up the victory in the 8-5 game.
