Arizona Cardinals vs. New York Giants 8:20 ET
Posted on Fri, 23 Oct 2009 00:00:00 GMT by North Shore Sports, INC
NBC's Sunday Night Football betting battle pits a pair of high-flying squads from the NFC against one another. Bookmaker.com clients will love to get down and dirty with all of the great NFL wagering action when the Arizona Cardinals (3-2, 3-2 ATS) aim for their third straight victory when they invade the Meadowlands to clash with the New York Giants (5-1, 4-1-1 ATS); kick-off is slated for 8:20 ET.
For awhile there, NFL gamblers had to wonder whether or not the Cardinals were ever going to let the Seahawks touch the football. Arizona jumped out to a 14-0 lead before QB Matt Hasselbeck ever got his hands on the pigskin. The Cards never looked back in their 27-3 triumph. QB Kurt Warner just continued to pick the Seattle defense apart like it was nobody's business. He finished the day 32/41 for 276 yards with two scores and an INT. WR Larry Fitzgerald was his favorite target, as the U-Pitt product finished the day with 13 catches for 100 yards and a TD.
Even though this is a team that has been built on its offense, its numbers just don't jump off the page. The Cardinals rank 6th in the NFL in passing at 280.2 yards per game, but thanks to the second worse rushing game in the land (57.6 yards per game), they are a mediocre team in total offense (337.8 yards per game, 16th) and points per game (22.4, 15th). The defense has done a fantastic job against the run this season though, as the unit is holding the opposition to just 59.6 yards per game, the best such mark in the NFL. After struggling on the road for most of last season, Arizona is 2-0 both SU and ATS away from the desert, and it'll hope that that continues on Sunday.
HC Tom Coughlin probably won't need to dig too deep into his bag to find a ton of motivation for his squad after it was pummeled in the Bayou last weekend. QB Drew Brees had his way all day with the New York secondary, torching it for 369 yards and four touchdowns in New Orleans' 48-27 victory. QB Eli Manning had an awful day for the G-Men, going just 14/31 for 178 yards with a TD and an INT. New York committed nine penalties for 110 yards on the day, and they only held the pigskin for 23:53 for the entire game.
Even after giving up all of those yards to the Saints, the Giants still have stellar defensive numbers. They rank #1 against the pass in the NFL (147.3 yards per game) and first in total 'D' (257.7 yards per game).
The oddsmakers are showing supreme confidence in the hosts in this battle of the L/2 NFC champions. The Giants have been lined at -7, while the 'total' chimes in at a lofty 46. The L/2 clashes between these squads have both been shootouts, as the G-Men beat the Cards 37-29 in 2008 in Arizona, and 42-19 at Giants Stadium in 2005.
