ALCS Game 5: New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 8:00 ET
Posted on Thu, 22 Oct 2009 00:00:00 GMT by North Shore Sports, INC
On Tuesday night, the New York Yankees (109-60, +$1,678) put together a dominating performance in their 10-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (101-68, +$2,300). The victory gave the Bronx Bombers a three games to one lead in this best-of-seven baseball betting series, and moved them to within one game of the World Series.
You can find the AL West champions lined at -120 to survive and force a Game 6 in this series back in the Bronx. The MLB baseball 'total' is lined at 8.5 over -115. Bookmaker Sportsbook will have all of the MLB gambling action you care to sink your teeth into until the first pitch is thrown at 8:00 ET.
They've pitched well, they've played timely defense, and they're tearing the cover off the baseball, and as a result, the Yanks look poised to make their triumphant return to the Fall Classic for the first time since 2003. Two nights ago, everything went New York's way in its Game 4 victory. LHP CC Sabathia threw eight practically spotless innings for his third straight excellent start in the playoffs, while 3B Alex Rodriguez blasted his third home run of the playoffs in the romp. LF Johnny Damon also went yard, while CF Melky Cabrera had his best game of the postseason, going 3/4 with a double and four RBIs.
Tonight, RHP AJ Burnett will be tabbed with the duty of disposing of the Angels. He threw 6.1 innings of solid ball against Anaheim in Game 2 of this series, finishing the day allowing two runs on just three hits and two walks, striking out five Halos along the way. For his career, Burnett is 2-2 with a 4.43 ERA against Anaheim.
Manager Mike Scioscia picked RHP John Lackey over any of his other pitchers in the first game of the ALDS and the ALCS, and now he'll turn to his right-hander to keep his team's season alive. Lackey couldn't catch a break to save his life in Game 1 against the Yankees, and it started right from the get-go when the left side of his infield couldn't figure out how to catch a pop fly to end the first inning. Lackey can blame his team's continuous comedy of errors and lack of clutch hitting ability for losing Game 1. He's had a miserable time in his career against the Yanks, as he is just 5-7 with a 4.66 ERA in 16 starts.
His won/loss record won't get any better unless he can get a lot better production from his lineup. The #1 and #2 hitters in the lineup, 3B Chone Figgins and RF Bobby Abreu are both hitting just .125 for the series. If you add up the batting averages of 1B Kendry Morales, C Mike Napoli, and LF Juan Rivera for this series (.368), you don't have the batting average of A-Rod for the series (.375).
