  • Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Indians 7:05 ET

Posted on Wed, 01 Jul 2009 00:00:00 GMT by North Shore Sports, INC

The Chicago White Sox (39-38, +$181) surpassed the .500 mark last night after winning its fourth straight and 11th in its L/15 tries against the Cleveland Indians (31-48, -$2041) at Progressive Field. The White Sox now own a winning record for the first time since they were 12-11 back in May. They set the tone for the evening in the 1st inning when RF Jermaine Dye plated his 47th RBI of the season to give them a 1-0 lead that blossomed to three immediately once 1B Paul Konerko busted a 2-for-15 slump by launching a two-run shot. Cliff Lee had gone into last night’s start riding a 22-inning scoreless streak against the White Sox, but that got put to a halt real quickly after Chicago lit him up for 11 hits and seven runs in 3+ innings. Lefty Clayton Richard was masterful early on, but after a short 32-minute rain delay, came back in and surrendered four earned runs. Since getting off to a rough start on the road in ’09, the White Sox are a $$$-making 12-4 SU their L/16 earning their ecstatic baseball betting backers close to $1200 during that stretch. Chicago is currently tied with Minnesota four-games in back of the AL Central leading Detroit Tigers. The season has gotten uglier with every passing week for Manager Eric Wedge’s Indians, and it’s believed he’s managing his final days of the franchise. The defeat dropped them to an AL worst $2041 in the hole for their baseball betting supporters on the year with no end in sight. It’s time for Tribe brass to start seriously thinking about selling come the trade deadline.

Bookmaker Sportsbook shockingly has Jeremy Sowers and the Indians listed as -120 home favorites over Jose Contreras and the White Sox for the finale of this AL Central clash with the game ‘total’ set at 9.5-runs.

Jose Contreras has been rock solid since returning from his stint in Triple A. In his four starts since, the sinkerballer is 2-2 with a 2.15 ERA allowing just 19 hits and seven ER’s with a K/BB ratio of 21/4 in 29+ total innings of work. He did suffer his second defeat since his return his last time out when one bad pitch cost him dearly against the Chicago Cubs. In his L/3 starts, the Cuban is 1-2 with a miniscule 2.95 ERA. In his career against the Tribe, Contreras is 4-2 with a 3.34 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 12 overall starts.

Jeremy Sowers churned out just his second quality start of the season his last time out against the Cincinnati Reds when he tossed seven innings of two-run ball to secure his second win of the season. On the year, the lefty is 2-5 with a bloated 5.44 ERA and 1.53 WHIP allowing 49 hits and 28 ER’s through 46.1 total innings of work. He’s been at his best at Progressive Field where he’s 2-2 with a 3.77 ERA, but has been roughed up by Chicago in five career starts going 0-4 with a 7.77 ERA and 1.56 WHIP.

The White Sox are a perfect 4-0 their L/4 as a road underdog, and they’ve secured victories in each of the final games of a series the L/4 times. The Indians are 0-6 each of the L/6 times they were installed a home favorite, and they’re 2-10 in Sowers’ L/12 starts against the AL Central.

Will the Palehose continue their excelled play and win for the fifth time in five tries, or will the Indians be able to salvage the series finale in front of their home crowd?
